Koç University Suna Kıraç Library was founded in 1993 as a non-profit private university in Istanbul. Its recently established library and photo-archive was created after the donation of the late Turkish-American art historian Esin Atil (1938- ) and ethnographer Josephine Powell (1919-2007). The library’s archive includes rare books and manuscripts collections in addition to a photographic collection of more than 50,000 images of various types, such as film-based negatives, slides, prints as well as digital files, all acquired by donation and dating mostly from the 1960s. The collection of slides date from 1960s to 2000s and vary in size, 5×4 and 5×6. In addition to this, printed photographs are also featured, illustrating Koç’s University history since its foundation. The collection is still expanding and is partially digitzed and catalogued on a database, and a portion is accessible online.
Koç’s University library is currently working on digitizing the rich and recently acquired collection, the Hittite collection, which will appear online soon.
