National Library of Jordan

The National Library of Jordan is attached to the Ministry of Culture and works towards the protection and preservation of Jordan’s cultural heritage, with the aim to serve researchers and scholars interested in the cultural and intellectual aspects of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The National Library was created in 1994 from the merger of the Center for Documents and Documentation and the Department of the National Library, itself having replaced the Department of Libraries and National Documents founded in 1977.

The Documents and Photograph Archiving Section within the National Library holds a collection of around 10,000 photos comprised of 17 private collections from the 1860s to the present day, mostly donations. The collections cover primarily Egypt, Palestine, Syria and mostly Jordan; they include Film-based negatives, digital files, positives, and Black and White and color prints.
