MEPPI Survey Aims of the Survey The MEPPI Survey is a major survey of photographic collections throughout the MENA region. In addition to identifying and assessing these photographic collections, the survey is intended to promote the sharing of experience and resources and to encourage collaborative projects and exhibitions among collection holders in the region. Creation of Online Directory The survey will lead to the publishing of an online directory
of regional photograph collections accessible to all (due end of 2013). The directory will present a list
of all the photographic collections identified by the MEPPI Survey. A paragraph - approved by a collection representative - will describe each collection’s
history and contents, accompanied by a sample image and contact
details. The directory will include search and sorting functions. About Led by the Arab Image Foundation, the survey has focused on institutional collections, particularly public archives, libraries, museums, universities, ministries and press archives. As part of the survey, specialist researchers conducted field trips across the region to interview professionals working in the field of photographic preservation and archiving and to identify a number of collections in each country. So far, over 250 collections have been identified. Participate in the Survey The MEPPI Survey is still accepting submissions.
