The Royal Protocol was initially charged with collecting photographic material for the King’s memoire Our Last Best Chance: The Pursuit of Peace in a Time of Peril. It first acquired the King’s personal photograph collection then sought out other private collections, with the aim to collect all photographs of the Hashemite royal family in Jordan.
The collection holds over 1 million photographs, dating as far back as the early 1900s to the present day, and representing royal audiences, stately occasions, official visits and the awarding of decorations. The holdings include film-based negatives, positives, Black and White and color prints as well as digital files. Photograph licensing for the collection is managed by the Media Department.
